One of the best places for vietnamese food. Every item we ordered hit the spot. The staff are very nice, polite and well mannered. Super recommend this restaurant. You won't regret it.

This was our first Here and we will be coming back again. The only knock that I would have for this restaurant is they don't have much vegetarian options and lunch was kind of pricy. The server was not as attentive as I would like. With that said, the quality of the food was phenomenal and our server was very helpful and cute, which helps. Overall, you must at least try this place once.

The food actually tastes pretty good and they open relatively late. An extensive menu, probably more than 60 dishes. But the issue really comes down to price. Each dish on my review costs around $20. You can see there isn't much, especially for the chicken cartilage. Three dishes ended up around $66 after taxes so yeah, it is expensive.

New update to my previous review from last year. Phuong Nam is my favorite restaurant in San Jose. Been to San Jose 3 times, ate at Phuong Nam 6 times. My go to is cơm bò lóc lạc, cơm sườn bò đại hạn. #83, #84. The bò nướng lá lót is another good one. #57. The food tastes great. I eat here once a week if I lived in this state. Phuong Nam uses very fresh ingredients and high quality meats. The filet Mignon melts in your mouth. Everything is cooked fresh to order. Highly recommended.

The overall experience was okay. The food was good but it was overpriced for many items. I always prefer Vietnamese restaurants when dining, so I have visited a lot of them. This place was probably 7/10. Pros are: - many local VN dishes that are hard to find in the US like clams, snails and mussels - many tasty hotpot options for large groups - extensive menu like a VN family style restaurant - service was fast - spacious dining area Cons are: - way overpriced - seatings was quite cramped in spite of the space - pay with credit cards gets charged 3% not included in the bills unlike many restaurants

Comfortable and clean Viet seafood spot. All dishes were perfectly flavore - Razor clams: piece I had had small meat with half stuck to the shell. The sauces , fresh chilis, and fresh herbs made it exciting to eat, 3/5 - Snails in coconut sauce: fun to suck out the snails, not too chewy, coconut sauce is rich and delicious, 5/5 - Chili squid: tentacles were nice and crispy. Bold flavours, not too spicy, green sauce was a nice complement, 4/5 - Scorched rice: can't go wrong with this. Bonus tip - pls dunk it in that delicious coconut broth from the snails YUM! 5/5 - Salted fish fried rice: strong salted fish flavour, good sized portion, 4.5/5 - Snap peas: perfectly cooked with an addictive crunch. However unnecessarily greasy, 2.5/5 - Duck: very chewy and hard to eat. Taste was good for what it's worth, 1.5/5 Total came to $28/pp, total 6 people with 18% service fee

A casual restaurant where the food is punching above its weight. Phuong Nam seems like a pretty typical casual strip mall restaurant. Casual and friendly service. Very casual atmosphere. But the food was on point. Flavors were good. Noodle textures were perfect. Ingredients tasted fresh. Meat was juicy. You can tell whoever is responsible for the kitchen cares about food. The giant clam with garlic vermicelli, the mixed dry noodles, and raw beef salad where all fantastic. Recommended for a delicious and casual meal.

My partner and I embarked on this epic quest last night--an hour-long drive to Phuong Nam. Was it worth it? Oh, you bet your garlic butter it was! First up, the sweet snails with garlic butter were tiny escargot twirling around in a buttery tango. Next, the steamed clams with vermicelli waltzed their way onto our plates danced harmoniously with the nice warm rice. Lastly, the water spinach was crunchy, refreshing, and full of surprises. The finisher was the garlic condiments--those unsung heroes. We scraped every last bit off the plate. It's like they whispered, "Hey, buddy, we're the secret sauce. You're welcome!" We really scrapped EVERYTHING clean like this was our last meal before we die. The ambiance? Perfect for any group size. Whether you're a duo, a trio, or a whole squad of hungry adventurers, Phuong Nam's got your back. The waitstaff were attentive and kind, like your favorite aunt who always tops up your wine glass. As we left, we made a pact: Next time, we're diving headfirst into their hot pot probably with a bigger group. Because life's too short for bland dinners, my friend!
